Cicada and it's shell.

Sometimes I wish I could just shed my old self and become a new person like the Cicada. Don't you? This was taken 7/17/10.

Focused, but out of focus...

The camera says this swallow is in focus, on auto or manual. But when you crop it is totally clear he is not. OR is it just me wanting my Canon 40D and 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 Is lens to be something it is not?

Swallow

Taken 7/18/10 Swallow spreading it's wings... One of those photos I have cropped, and felt was blurry, so I sharpened it and tweeked it a little.

One animal I don't like...

Tick. One of the human/animal interactions I don't care to have. Don't ask me what kind of tick, for I don't really care. This is one animal, this animal lover has no qualms about killing. But on the other hand, I did find a website that does define the different types: http://www.tickinfo.com/

Red ants

Took a walk with Josh and went to roll over a log to show him interesting things underneath, but it broke apart! Sorry ant colony!

Pheasant remains

I took a walk late afternoon yesterday and found what I thought wasthe remains of a Red Tail Hawk, but after a friend pointed out what type of birds have this spur, I feel it is a pheasant. I assume the Bald Eagle that got it, but maybe it was a lucky fox. The bones were picked clean. Probably by the Black Vultures that have been around lately. Not all the bones were there, but some could have washed away in the rain storm a few weeks ago for they were on the sandbar island and very near the waters edge. Some of the feathers had mud on them.

Foxes in the night

6:30 pm. I just got home with the groceries and two four footed fluffy tail creatures dashed in front of where we park our cars and one ran up the lawn in front of the house, the other ran across the frozen creek to the island. As I was gathering and walking the groceries up to the house this god awful scream was let out by the fox that ran up the lawn and into the woods. I have to saw I was a little scared, and so were they, but I am very happy to see two of them in the area. I have only ever seen one sunning himself/herself on the island years ago.

Mystery Yellow Bird

My guess is either a female Yellow-rumped Warbler, or a Yellow-bellied flycatcher. I am not sure these two photos are of the same bird. There were some that must have been some female Yellow-rumped Warblers, hanging around with the males, but then there was a larger yellow bird. I have spotted this bird in the same place twice, so when Josh wakes up I may go out again today and focus on getting a photo of this one.
