Cicada and it's shell.

Sometimes I wish I could just shed my old self and become a new person like the Cicada. Don't you? This was taken 7/17/10.

One animal I don't like...

Tick. One of the human/animal interactions I don't care to have. Don't ask me what kind of tick, for I don't really care. This is one animal, this animal lover has no qualms about killing. But on the other hand, I did find a website that does define the different types: http://www.tickinfo.com/

Juvenile Bald Eagle!!!

10:45 May 31, 2010. 85°F | °C Current: Sunny Wind: SW at 3 mph. Humidity: 50%

I have seen bald eagles around here, but never a juvenile. What a treat and he was a great poser right on the top of the dead tree on the end of our lawn and the Perkiomen creek! He headed upstream when I took the last shot of him taking off!

Flock of Cedar Waxwings

Cedar Waxwing flock. It was 8:50 am on this over cast morning of April 27, 2010 when I saw a flock of birds feasting on the spring trees. At first I thought there must be a dozen. Then after shooting the photos it was clear that there were probably at least two dozen. As you can see there are at least seven in this one photo alone! Click on it for a larger version.

Female Wood Duck and family

Seems she has 6 babies this year. They are very shy and hard to get a photo of for they hug the island tightly.

Snake in a tree

This is a garter snake. There is usually one or two around in the rock walls around the house. I have been swamped with puppy poop lately, so my photos of wild life have drifted off. 6 foster puppies are moving very slowly. This snake was right outside the laundry room dog as I was going in to feed and change their paper. I had never seen one in a tree!

Kingfisher Pair Eating!

A tree fell in the creek directly across from our steps that lead down the the creek. It seems to be a new popular spot for the birds, especially the pair of Kingfishers. Recently I saw three kingfishers. One seems to have been chased off though. Here is a shot of the pair, one with a fish in it's mouth. And then a shot of it tossing it so it can reposition it to swallow it down. He or She didn't chew! Just swallowed it whole!

Bald Eagle

It seems our wandering Bald Eagle was looking for an easy meal. He was eyeing up some baby mallard ducklings that were just born. This photo was taken yesterday evening around 5:30 pm. It was an overcast day, temps in the 70's.

Sandpiper

This guy was out when I first walked out of the house, and then I saw him again up on the sandbar. I have seen him/her before but have never gotten a good shot of him. He/She did not fly off with the two Killdeer that are around, when they were near each. Nor did this guy make any sound. The Killdeer were quite talkative of course. Here are three photos. The photos were taken around 3-4 pm. It is a beautiful sunny day out, not humid for once. 82 degrees right now as I write this. Click on the image for a larger view.
